Mathis was framed throughout the whole movie. I love the movie to death, but there's some parts I just don't get. Vesper wasn't a bad guy for the whole movie, so my question is what was she at the start? If Quantum could control her, why not make the deal with her at the start, so she could just transfer the money then? Where did it go, a personal bank account? Why not tell Vesper to punch in their code? When she puts the code in, where does the money go? It was never deposited into the treasury, but it wasn't deposited into Quantum's account either. Vesper makes the deal to get the money to Quantum. Does anyone else think this is because Vesper made a deal during the torture scene? Vesper's feelings for Bond warm during the movie, but they take a giant jump after the torture scene. Verdict: Mathis has to be guilty of something. If Mathis wasn't working for Le Chiffre, there is no groundwork laid by Vesper + Le Chiffre to make Bond thing Mathis is a double agent, as Bond only puts Le Chiffre knowing his tell and the text message together as it happens. How is Mathis not a double agent? It is clearly said by Le Chiffre that Mathis works for him.
